History

The Wesley Foundation United Methodist Campus Ministry has been a presence at the University of Oregon for over 80 years. Started as a mission of Eugene First UMC it is now supported by all the churches in the Eugene-Springfield area (and indeed all the churches of the annual conference through our UMOI “askings”). Our current facility was purchased in 2015 and is being renovated.

The campus ministry is staffed by a 3/4 time United Methodist clergy-person, Warren Light, 5 interns, and a part-time administrative assistant. In addition to directing the student program of the campus ministry, Warren sits on the Alliance for Sexual Assault Prevention, tthe Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team [DOJ], the Attorney General’s Task Force on Sexual Assault, the UMOI Safe Sanctuaries Team, and Co-chairs the University Religious Directors’ Association. These connections have led the Wesley Foundation into more effective ministry.

90% of the University identity/advocacy groups have been part of programs at the Wesley Center, including but not limited to the LGBTQA, Black Student union, People of the Pacific, Kultura Filipinas, AccessAbility Student Union, and more.
